Marvin was raised and went to school in Bishop, California then joined the U.S. Marines in 1966. He served during the Vietnam War in Da Nang, Vietnam. He was critically injured while serving and received a Purple Heart. Marvin went on to lead a productive and busy life.

He drove a tanker truck for a while before beginning a 10 years stint at Ranger College in maintenance. Marvin went back to driving a truck which he loved doing before he retired.
Marvin was happiest playing golf, hanging out with other veterans at the VFW and Ranger Veterans Memorial Park. This ended abruptly in 2012 when he became permanently disabled. He absolutely enjoyed his large family, especially his grandchildren who thought Grandpa was the greatest.
