Minna Veda Jones, 91, passed away Monday, August 18 after a short illness. Minna Veda was born in Klondike, Texas on September 23, 1922. She married William Morris Jones at the age of 19 in Commerce, Texas. After living in Commerce and Gladewater, they moved to Eastland where she lived for 65 years.
Minna Veda was an active member of First Baptist Church of Eastland where she taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. Known as Grandmommy to all her grandchildren and their friends, Minna Veda thrived loving on babies and children. She was always thrilled when a former Sunday School student would give her a hug.
She worked as a book keeper for Eastland Drugs for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her friends to placed such as Alaska, New England, and, one of her favorite places, Ireland.
Minna Veda is survived by son, Michael Jones and his wife Debra of Carrollton, Texas; daughter Kathy Jones Hoes and her husband Ron of Rowlett, Texas; daughter-in-law Kathy Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother Davis Rex of Commerce, Texas, sister-in-laws Pat Rex of Ladonia, Texas and Betty Jones of Norwalk, California.
Minna Veda was preceded in death by her husband, William Morris Jones, her son, Billy Morris Jones, her parents, W.J. and Tinia Rex, and her brothers, W.J., Dale, and Jimmie Phy.
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m on Thursday, August 21 at Edwards Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Eastland. A graveside service will be at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, Texas on Friday, August 22 at 1:00 p.m.
