Olena May Williamson

March 11, 1913 — March 27, 2014

EASTLAND – Olena May Williamson died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the age of 101 years. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 1 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Eastland with Rev. Ray Rodgers of Harmony Baptist Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 1 – 2 PM before the service.
Olena was born March 11, 1913 in Mangum, Texas and was the daughter of Edd and Emma May. Olena was a lifelong resident of Eastland County. She and Dee F. Williamson married August 17, 1929 and were married for 66 years, until his death in 1996. During that time she and Dee operated a dairy farm in the Morton Valley community, north of Eastland. A devoted wife and mother and homemaker, Olena worked in the dairy, raised four children, taught Sunday school class at Harmony Baptist Church, and presided over the ample harvest of fruit and vegetables from the garden Dee planted every year. She was a woman of moral strength and character. She taught her children by example – the qualities of a deep religious faith, the determination to complete even difficult tasks, and the compassion to repect and help others.
Olena had four children, three of whom survived her. Her eldest child Dolores Wright preceded her in death in 2011. Dolores’ husband, Lloyd Wright, continues to live in the Oakton, Virginia area. Gerald Dee Williamson is the second child, and he and his wife Paulette live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The third child is Douglas D. Williamson. He and his wife Merla live in Ft. Worth. The last child is Kathryn Ann Baker who lives with her husband John in Baton Rouge, Louisianna.
Olena was the loving Grandmother – “Granny” – to 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Harmony Baptist Church, 126 CR 334, Eastland, TX 76448 or to the charity of your choice.
