Orvel M. Gibbs

Orvel M. Gibbs, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 10AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, 411 S. Mulberry, Eastland with interment following in the Simpson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 PM.
Orvel Mearduth Gibbs was born on October 5, 1935 in Somerville County, Texas to Charlie “Bud” and Mary Beatrice “Bea” (Hubble) Gibbs. He married Mary Louise Shue on August 8, 1956 in Fort Worth, they enjoyed 63 years of marriage until her passing on December 22, 2019. Orvel was a successful gospel singer, ran a thriving candy business, and worked as a helicopter mechanic prior to his retirement. He had a passion for gospel music, its history, and serving the Lord.
He is survived by his son, Terry Gibbs and wife, Tammie; daughters, Cindy Dickerson, Charlotte Hicks, and Sherry Elmore and husband, Tim; brothers, Jerry Gibbs and Charlie Jackson Gibbs and wife, Delores; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Teresa Rawlings; sister, Inez Gibbs; and brother, Ronnie Gibbs.
