Patrick Eugene Ready passed away at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
Pat Ready was born in Fort Worth, Texas August 24th, 1951 to Jennye Ruth and Michael Patrick Ready and he lived his first couple of years there. The Readys moved to Midland, Texas in 1956. Patrick attended elementary school grades 1-4 at St. Ann's school. His family moving to Hobbs New Mexico in 1961, Pat attended grades 5 & 6 at the St. Helena Elementary School and grades 7 & 8 Highland Jr. High. In 1965 the Ready family moved back to Midland, Texas where Pat attended Midland High School graduating in 1969.
After a short stint at UT-Austin, Pat completed his B.A. degree in Philosophy at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1973. Pat worked in the West Texas oil fields for Texaco Inc. for the next two decades. Deciding on a career change, he obtained his paralegal degree from Southeastern Paralegal Institute. He worked for the Silber-Pearlman (now Baron & Budd) law firm in Dallas, Texas for a decade.
In 2004, Pat contracted colon cancer and was successfully treated. Pat's aunt, Lucy Maillie, fell ill in 2006 so Pat left Dallas to become her caretaker in Ranger, Texas. During the next several years, Pat worked for the Eastland, County Newspapers as their advertising manager. After Lucy Maillie's death in 2009, Pat remained in Ranger until 2011, when illness forced him to move to the Austin, Texas area to seek medical treatment for cancer.
Pat Ready was a life-long patron of the arts & sciences, participating in many, many community organizations and aspects of community development over the years. He was very active in the Catholic Church. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he attained the rank of 4th order and was a member of the International Order of Alhambra.
Pat is survived by his sister; Clara Sue McSpadden, her husband Robert ("Texas Bob") McSpadden of Katy, Texas, and their children Bonnie Ruth and Matthew McSpadden both of the Houston area; Another sister Ruth Ann Blackwell, her husband Richard Blackwell Jr. of Lago, Vista, Texas and their children Drew and Lani Lea Blackwell of the Austin area; and Pat's brother Thomas Edward Ready, his wife Suzanne, and their son Michael William Ready of Midland, Texas.
The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17th at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Ranger, Texas directed by Edwards Funeral Home. Following the Mass, a short graveside prayer gathering will occur at the Catholic cemetery in Clyde, Texas. In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the poor.
