Phillip "Bubba" Pogue

April 14, 1950 — August 27, 2024

Phillip D. “Bubba” Pogue 74, passed away at his home in Eastland, Texas on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will host a visitation at the home residence on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 PM.

Bubba was born on April 14, 1950, in El Paso, Texas to Billy D and Barbara (Hollis) Pogue. He married Monti Bill Harper on August 30, 1975, in Broadview, New Mexico. Bubba was an extraordinary man and the rock of his family.

It has been said that one could write a book about Bubba’s remarkable life. He lived out a true “rags to riches” story coming from incredibly humble beginnings. His extraordinary work ethic and determination enabled him to acquire a legacy for his children and grandchildren. His hard work and toil were not for selfish gain, but always for his family.

Bubba was born with a special gift working with horses. His desire and interest in horses directed him towards working on ranches, rodeo and becoming a farrier. After Bubba and Monti were married for a few years, the rodeo gypsy lifestyle came to a halt in Eastland, TX where they established their roots and started a family.

He continued working with horses, but after a serious accident while shoeing a horse, he decided to change his occupation and started driving a truck. He drove over a million miles during his truck driving career and retired in 2016. He spent the rest of his years taking care of the “place” and enjoying time with his family.

Survivors are his wife, Monti Pogue of Eastland; children, Pecos Pogue of Eastland, Jakeo Pogue of Eastland and Acy Hopkins and husband, Josh of San Angelo; a brother, Rusty Pogue; five sisters, Stephanie Pogue, Toni Pogue, Kathy Cole, Susie Pogue and Cheryl Magness; seven grandchildren; Zane Pogue, Adela Pogue, Naleah Pogue, Cooper Hopkins, Luke Hopkins, Hayes Hopkins and Cora Hopkins.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Pogue and Barbara Hollis.
