Robert William “Bobby” Nixon III, 67 of Eastland, Texas, passed away in Clayton, NM on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27th at Solid Rock Camp, 599 CR 578, Eastland, TX. Memorial service at 2 p.m. officiated by Brother Rex Boggs, and Brother Ray Rodgers. Burial will follow at Eastland City Cemetery.
Bobby was born January 8, 1954 in Eastland, TX to Robert William “Booger Red” Nixon, Jr. and Catherine Sue Cooper. Bobby started rodeoing when he was five years old. In his teens, Bobby won the AJRA Reserve World Champion in bareback riding in ’71 and ’73. Bobby competed on the Cisco Jr. College rodeo team where he attended school on a rodeo scholarship. He received an Associates of Science Degree.
Bobby competed in Pro Rodeo as well as Senior Circuit Rodeo for many years while he worked on the family ranch. Between 1990 ~ 1994 he won 4 Bareback Riding Championships in Senior and Old Timers Rodeo.
He currently worked as a Stone Engraver at Sterling Monument Company where he had been employed for many years. Bobby passed while returning from a church retreat that he looked forward to every year.
Survivors are: sister, Sheri Nixon Powell of Cleburne, TX; brother, Kyle Landrum Nixon of Dallas, TX; niece, Brandi Satre of Cleburne, TX; great-nephew, Jason Hulsey of Cleburne, TX; great-niece, Taylor Satre of Austin, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, Timothy Nixon, and nephew, Billy Powell.
