Robert Eugene Russell Sr. (Gene) at age 64 Heavenly Father called him home January 5, 2013. Gene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Gene was born on May 19, 1948 in Haskell, Texas to Robert and Dorothy Russell. He married Sharyn Rozell on March 12, 1969 in Brownfield, Texas. Gene was drafted into the United State Army in 1968 where he served in Vietnam and then ended his service in 1976. Gene then later serviced in law enforcement for 19 years. Gene worked for the Nolan County Sheriff's Office, Eastland County sheriff's Office, and the Eastland Police Department. Gene was a family man who loved his family more than anything. Gene loved hunting, fishing, camping and most of all family gatherings. Gene lived his life through God, family, and country. Gene always put everyone ahead of himself and never complained about anything or anyone. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Russell and sister, Linda Kirby.
He is survived by his wife, Sharyn Russell; son, Bobby Russell and wife Trudi (caregiver) of Alba, Texas; granddaughter, Erica and husband Thomas Hortman of Barksdale AFB Bossier, LA, Terry Wilkinson and wife Melissa and kids; three brothers, Doyle Russell and wife Mona of Shallowater, Texas, Floyd Russell and wife Patsy of Zephyr, Texas, and Ray Russell and wife Peggy of Eastland, Texas; two sister, Patricia (Cookie) Sims and husband Freddy of Brownfield, Texas, Gleda Jackson and husband Gary of Rankin, TX.; sister-in-law, Mini Wilkins and husband Sam of Cisco, TX; brother-in-law, Ira Kirby of Lubbock, TX, and Chuck Rozell of Cisco, TX. Gene has several nieces and nephews and is expecting one great-grandson that is due on Gene's birthday.
Services for Gene will be on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home, Eastland, TX and followed by graveside services at Eastland City Cemetery.
Viewing is on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6PM to 8PM.
