Ronald Wayne Cotton, 72, passed due to complication with dementia on July 16, 2022, surrounded by family and friends in Eastland, TX. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland on Tuesday, 5~7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home.
The question that we all ask is, “Will we make an impact in this life?” Ron did. He made a dent in this world, as one of the kindest, most caring and understanding men you would have ever known. Ron had a gift of making people feel seen and special, and he used it daily.
Upon his retirement from Midland Memorial Hospital after 35 years as a CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, “Ron Cotton Day” was declared by the city of Midland, TX on June 23, 2014. From 1974-2014, they called him “The Sandman”. Ron’s trademark was to place a quarter in the hand of his patients as they underwent anesthesia and surgery. He said, “Everyone deserves to wake-up with a surprise and know they are special”. After 35 years and over 35,000 patients, he placed an estimated $8,750.00 worth of quarters in his patient’s hands.
Growing up on a dairy and peanut farm in Rising Star, TX. Ron was no stranger to hard work. He paid for his degrees at Texas Tech University and the West Texas State RN Baylor Anesthesia School, by farming peanuts.
Up until his death, Ron enjoyed his retirement on his family farm where a good day was just spent with family and friends, or just doing absolutely nothing. Ron loved his life, his family and many friends. He had an awesome life.
