Rowena Porter, 78 of Ranger passed from this life Thursday, November 13, 2014 in Eastland. Graveside services will be held Sunday November 16, 2014 at 2:30 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, TX under the direction of Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland. Rowena will lie in state at Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, TX before her service.
Rowena was born March 20, 1936 to John Edward and Dorothy Bulmer Pomelow in Brownville, Maine. She graduated High School from Brownville-Junction High School in Brownville, Maine. She married Carroll Porter August 26, 1954 while still living in Maine. Rowena and Carroll moved to Ranger in 1980. Carroll preceded her in death in September of 1987.
Rowena was a loving and selfless mother having become a single mother and was very proud of her children and the adults they became. While living in Maine she was a member of the Eastern Star. Rowena was an avid reader and loved a good romance novel. She also enjoyed watching reality TV, especially Survivor. She loved animals and would often bring in strays or hurt animals to love and take care of. She was a Methodist.
Rowena is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carroll, two brothers: Donald and Carlton Pomelow and one sister: Virginia.
She is survived by her three beloved children: John Paul Porter and his wife Vickey of Eastland, Paula Melissa Porter also of Eastland and Michael Alex Porter of Austin. Grandchildren: Jessica Huckaby, Ryan Huckaby, Morgan Porter, Benjamin Porter, Dusty Porter, Brett Hart, Jaron Bell and Michael Porter and one precious great-grandchild: Greyson Bell. She is also survived by one sister: Marion Carr of Dexter, Maine and sister-in-law: Shirley Pomelow of Maine.
