Ruth Guy

July 15, 2022 — July 15, 2022

Ruth Guy went to meet her Lord on July 11, 2022, a few weeks short of her 96th birthday. She was born to Elmer Claude Bethany and Bessie Lee Bethany in Carbon, Texas. She graduated from Carbon High School.
She met a young man named A.E. (Cotton) Guy and they were married August 18, 1943 in Carbon, Texas, and began a life together. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Claudette Guy Buske in 1945, and a son, Randy Elton Guy in 1950.
Ruth received the Lord into her life at an early age and was baptized in a community river. After she was a young married wife and mother, she rededicated her life to the Lord and was baptized once more at Mangum Baptist Church, along with her daughter on the same day. She enjoyed being a part of a quartet at Mangum, and had a wonderful voice.
Ruth was a member of Mangum Baptist Church for many years, then Carbon Baptist Church. Following her husband’s death in 1975, Ruth moved to Eastland joining Bethel Baptist Church until her death. She was residing at an Assisted Living Facility in Abilene, Texas, at the time of her passing away.
Ruth spent 23 years working as the Secretary/Office Manager at Eastland Livestock Auction, First National Bank as a Teller for 3 years, and Sneed Construction for 7 years, retiring in 1991. She was also the Stock Show Secretary for 4H and FFA for many years, making sure each exhibitor received their sale money quickly and efficiently from their livestock sale.
Ruth had many accomplishments in her life, but none greater than the way she lived her life and those she touched. After retirement, she enjoyed her weekly card games with her lady friends, and she has now joined them playing those card games in Heaven. She was a friendly people-person, always smiling; she also enjoyed shopping with her daughter. And she really enjoyed Randy spending the weekend with her and just visiting and doing odd-jobs for her. Another favorite activity was weekend “Train” domino games with her granddaughters, Stacy Mendez and Myranda McBride. She was delighted to fly with Jerry and Claudette to Chicago to attend granddaughter Sheri’s graduation from DePaul University. She loved each and all of her grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild so very much. She was truly the heart of her family, and would be the first to offer any assistance to family and friends. She was the rock her family turned to in time of need, and she was always ready to give her love and help. She was the best Mother, Grandmother, Mother-in-Law, and Aunt anyone could ask for.
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cotton Guy, in 1975, her parents and grandparents, son-in-law, Jerry Buske, one grandson, John R. Guy, and her Sister, Ladell Tonn.
She is survived by her daughter, Claudette Buske of Brownfield, Texas, her son, Randy Guy of Abilene, Texas, daughter-in-law, Cindy Guy of Abilene, Texas, granddaughters, Sheri Buske of Salem, Oregon, Stacy Mendez of Lubbock, Texas, and Myranda Matthews of Abilene, great-granddaughters, Alayna Mendez and Alyssa Mendez-Lloyd of Lubbock, Texas, Melody Matthews of Abilene, Texas, Grace Buske of Normal, Illinois, and Macy Matthews of Abilene, Texas, two great-grandsons, Andrew Mendez of US Navy in Bahrain, and Micah Matthews of Abilene, Texas, one great-great granddaughter, Olivia Pierce of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Norman Bethany of Eugene, Oregon and Joe Neil Bethany of Lyndale, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
