Sammie Maxine Smallwood Libby Sammie Maxine Smallwood Libby was born June 29, 1935, in Winters, Texas to Millard and Rosa Lea Smallwood. She fell asleep in death on July 21, 2021, in Eastland, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Rodney Neil Libby of 41 years, 9 children: Harold Lowery, Lola Lowery Gann, Tony Daniel, Vivian Saldana, Gale Wilson, Lee Daniel, Lovey Moore, Michelle Daniel and Kathleen Daniel; 14 grandchildren: Jason Lowery, Shonna Debes, Ronnie Lowery, Jeremy Nicholas, Kiana Saldana, Daniel Saldana, Ryne Wilson, Jennefer Hutto, Anna Wilson, Courtney Moore, Meghan Moore, Gage Daniel, Sean Daniel and Savannah Daniel along with 17 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters: Joyce Mangan, Jean Magan, Mildred Henry, Margie Duncan, Emma Lea Coldiron, Rose Ann Hurst, and 1 brother: David Smallwood. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and numerous close friends. Sammie was preceded in death by her parents Millard and Rosa Lea Smallwood also her sister Emma Lee Coldiron. Sammie lived in Odessa, Texas, and raised her family there. Her beauty exceeded that of any Hollywood Starlet, and she had a big heart to match. Sammie was not only a wonderful cook and homemaker but was also a very successful businesswoman. Sammie owned, LS&D Janitorial Service. She taught her children a very strong work ethic. In 1980, she married Rodney Neil Libby. The family moved to Newfield, Maine to help work on Maple Leaf Poultry Farm. Sammie opened a grocery store named the “Maple Leaf Farm Store” and Sammie also owned “The Trifles Shoppe” during the time of the 80’s. Those businesses included an array of video rentals and home cooked foods that included: BBQ, Mexican, a deli, a malt shop, and a pizzeria. In 1988, the family relocated to Comanche, Texas, to help care for her elderly mother. While there, she opened an art store called “Desert N Sea” and taught art classes. She sold craft and art supplies, also decorative items. She also managed a motel. The family eventually settled in Cisco, Texas in 2008. Sammie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in June, 1959. She spent many years studying the Bible and trying to help her children and others come to an accurate knowledge of the truth. She was well known for her strong faith and conviction. For those who knew her, Sammie was a “force of nature”, yet she also displayed a gentle nurturing maternal love for those she cared about. She demonstrated strength of character and strong will in an exceptional way. She loved Jehovah God and she loved her family. Her name can now be added to the countless others who proved their integrity to death and will sleep until she is resurrected into a paradise earth. (John 5:28, 29). May we be there to greet her when she is awakened. Her family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all, especially to those who truly extended themselves while showing empathy and love during Sammie’s care of her prolonged illness.
