Thomas Mitchell Harris, known as Mitchell, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on March 12, 2025. He was born on November 23, 1948, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Thomas Cisero "T.C." Harris III and Rosalie (Gilland) Harris, whose work ethic, moral character, and dedication to family shaped the man he became.
Mitchell earned his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education from Tarleton State University, often referring to it as the "Harvard on the Bosque." He dedicated over 40 years of his life to his passion for agriculture, working as a Farm and Land Banker with the Production Credit Association, which later merged into AgTexas. His commitment to the agricultural community in Texas was unwavering, and he deeply respected his colleagues and clients.
He and his wife, Pat, built a life together grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a strong partnership. Above all, Mitchell was deeply grateful for Pat's dedication to their girls and the care she provided him, especially in his later years.
Mitchell took great pride in his daughters-Heather, Lauren, and Kristen-valuing both their successes and the time they spent together. He enjoyed simple traditions with the girls, like cooking Saturday morning pancakes, and devoutly supporting their activities. In later years, he took joy in his grandchildren and their interests.
The family ranch in Breckenridge, fondly called "The River", was a cherished retreat where Mitchell embraced his love for cowboy life and spending time with his father, T.C. and brother, Scott.
Christian community was an important part of Mitchell's life. His years as a member of First Christian Church in Stephenville, Texas, were incredibly meaningful to him. During his time there he served as an Elder, board member, Sunday school teacher, and even played on the church softball team. In later years he attended First Christian Church in Woodson, Texas with his father, where he found fellowship and friendship.
Mitchell is survived by his wife, Pat Harris of Eastland; daughters Heather Harris-Smith and husband Clayton of Longview, Lauren Harris of Corpus Christi, and Kristen Harris of Abilene; grandchildren Abigail, Alyssa, and Adalynn Smith; his brother, Scott Harris of Breckenridge; along with other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.C. Harris III and Rosalie Harris.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at First Methodist Church in Breckenridge, Texas. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Samantha Chambers. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
