Tom went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on May 8 th , 2023. He was a long-time resident of
Grand Prairie, Texas. His love for Jesus and his teachings were transparent in his love and devotion to his
friends and family. Although Tom may have left this physical world, we believe that we will all be
together with him in heaven one day.
Tom was always a welcoming father. He brought the family together every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
Easter. His grandchildren filled his home with love and joy. In fact, he was often videotaping them
growing up! Tom was always there to give advice when asked. He was even known to give a little advice
even when not asked. He truly was the glue that held the family together. Tom had knowledge of a wide
variety of topics. Tom had a passion for golf, baseball, world history, and American politics. He was an
avid golfer and instructor well into his eighties! He had a robust career at General Motors in Arlington,
Texas, and was proud of the decades he worked there.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce, his three children and their families: son Rob
(Peggy) Kirkland, daughter Renée (Jim) Speed, daughter Felicia (Kevin) Johnson, stepdaughters’ Carol
(Tom) Thompson and Joy Dillard, as well as 9 grandchildren Erica, Chris, Amber, Moriah, Zak, Rachel,
Morgan, Dylan, Natalie, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and best friends Charlie
and Angie Lanyon.
We will always remember Tom as a wonderful dad and devoted friend.
