Velma Lou Walker, 83, of Eastland passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at an Abilene hospital. Funeral Service will be Monday, December 29th at Daughtery Street Church of Christ in Eastland at 11AM followed by graveside services at Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home Eastland.
She was born July 13, 1931, and grew up in Ranger, TX. After graduating from Ranger Junior College she married Charles G. Walker of Deleon, TX. During his 25-year Air Force career, they were able to travel extensively, having lived 6 states and 3 foreign countries. After Charles retired, they purchased property outside of Eastland and lived there a number of years before moving to their final home within the city limits of Eastland. They were married almost 60 years when Charles passed away June of 2012.
Lou was a woman who was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and good friend to many. Her husband and family took priority in her life and she was very content to remain at home and attend to their needs. She acted like a lady at all times--her poise, dignity, and character was a testimony to the important place the Word of God had in her heart. Because of her life, her husband was quick to always speak highly of her and her children honored to "arise up and call her blessed" (Prov. 31:28). She was a very faithful servant of God and active member of Daughtery Street Church of Christ for many years. Among her many talents was that she was an excellent cook as attested to by the many blue ribbons she won as well as the smiles of appreciation of those dining at her table. She had a wonderful sense of humor...smiling and laughing came easy for her. She was well-organized and her home always reflected cleanliness and orderliness, providing a welcome retreat for family. She and Charles loved to travel and many times they would take trips and just enjoy being together, and they enjoyed participating with friends in many church activities and get-togethers. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, her father, James C. Rose, her mother Bessie, and six brothers, Harold, Odell, Dwellie, Charlie, John, and Doug. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Williams, and husband Ralph, of Kaufman, TX; son, Steve and wife Chol, of Mansfield, TX; and three grandchildren; Caitlin Williams of Kaufman, TX, Ellis Walker and wife, Bailey of Louisville, KY, and Elanna Walker of Mansfield, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
