William Morgan “Bill” James, Jr, 88 of Gordon, passed away Sunday October 9, 2022 surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Wednesday Oct. 12th at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13th at the Gordon Volunteer Fire Department. Burial will follow in the New Gordon Cemetery.
Bill was born August 25, 1934 in Strawn to William Morgan James and Esther Elena Heatherly James. He graduated from Gordon High School. He married Greta Joyce Alexander on September 5, 1952 in Gordon. He worked as a Water Maintenance Contractor for many years. He worked with Tri-City Ambulance Service and was Fire Chief of the Gordon Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years, as well as mowing for the City of Gordon.
He was a Baptist, a member of the Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason for 40 years, and had served on the Palo Pinto County Fire Board, as well as the New Gordon Cemetery board. He was an avid Gordon Longhorn supporter and filmed the sports for over 20 years. He loved taking care of his cattle, but most of all he loved watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Greta Joyce; 2 sisters, Billie Catherine James and Willena Wright; and a granddaughter, Heather Rouse.
Survivors include son, Billy James and wife Brenda; daughter, Elena Rouse; son, Arthur James and Lora Lowrey and daughter, Judy Cathey; grandchildren, Michael and Jill Rouse, Stephanie Rouse, Trey James, Lacey and Randall Noe, Colt Shires, Zack and Paige Shires, Morgan and Brett Clark, and Shelby and Marcus Hinkson; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Cameron James, Jimmy, Penny and KC Shires, Mackenzie and Coulter Noe, Cash and Axel Shires, Jasper and Tatum Clark, Tucker Lynn and Harlow Hinkson, and Hailey & James Storms, Hope, Hoss and Heidi Rouse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
