S Wanda Jean Duske Hull

February 21, 1930 — August 6, 2014

Wanda Jean Duske Hull, 84, Eastland, passed from this life to her heavenly home on August 6, 2014, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday, August 9 , 2014 at First Baptist Church of Eastland officiated by Rex Boggs and Larry Briley. Family will receive visitors from 5pm-7pm at Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland. Wanda was born February 21, 1930 to Bruno and Anna Bell Duske. She grew up in Gorman and Graduated from Gorman High School in 1948. Wanda worked for the telephone company and raised hogs to make enough money to move to Eastland. In 1960 she came to Eastland, armed with her hammer, a saw and determination, Webb’s 7-11 opened, it was Eastland’s first convenience store. It was open nights and weekends when the chain stores were closed. Wanda called many of her regular customers; Jimmy Charles Moylan, Donny Cate, Cody Cox and dozens more “her kids”. They would come in for a soda and candy, or stack bottles for her. All of those children and customers still favorites of her today. The store became a fond memory for many from their childhood that is cherished even today. Many friends, relationships, good values and morals came from that little store. All of these due to Wanda, helping, caring and loving her neighbors. She later sold the store and opened a florist. Wanda often spoke of going to football games and sitting in the passenger seat of the car braiding ribbon for mums on the way, showing her dedication to family, friends and community. Wanda was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for 40 years. She assisted with the Chamber Office, Old Rip and numerous other community activities. Wanda was a devoted member of Mangum Baptist Church for 40 years. She had wanted to go to Church one last time but was unable, on June 29th, Mangum Baptist Church made her wish come true. On that day around 12:30 people started arriving at Wanda’s home, by 12:45 there were about 30 people there. The members of Mangum Baptist Church as well as members of other area Churches gathered to sing praises to our Lord and worship together. On that warm Sunday afternoon amidst the prayers, singing and preaching, Wanda rededicated her life to Christ. The wonderful ladies choir sang songs to her and we were all truly blessed that day. Wanda loved to be around people. Her family and friends were her greatest treasure. It has often been said “if you need to know who someone is or where they came from ask Wanda Hull”. You could find her at Eastland Drug in the mornings having coffee and catching up on the evenings happenings with friends. Tuesdays you could set your clock by her and the girls headed to Pulido’s. She and Dr. Bob could be found at senior dances from, Desdemona, DeLeon, Stephenville and one of her favorites the Cowboy Christmas Ball at the Cowboy Church in Olden. But come Sunday morning she was sitting in her pew at Mangum Baptist Church ready to serve the lord. She was loved by all and feared by a few, if you rented from her you understand. Wanda’s rentals have been homes to hundreds of families over the years. She drove through the alleyway of her rentals three to four times a day to insure all was well. Wanda was a collector of many things, bells, thimbles, broaches but she is best known for her license plate collection ranging from a 1930 Texas plate to an Iraq plate. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents: Bruno and Anna Bell Duske, Brother Willie Fred Duske, Husband George B Hull. Wanda leaves behind to carry on her legacy: Daughter Carol Ann Brittain of Eastland, Son Garrett (Tater) Webb and wife Tina of Eastland, Megan Brittain of Eastland, Trent Brittain of San Antonio, Amy Lopez and husband Ray of Ranger, Nicole Desmond and husband Cody of Caldwell.
