William Joseph Smith (Billy) passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at the age of 34 at his residence in Ranger, Texas. The memorial service will be on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at 2:00pm. Dinner to follow in St. Rita’s hall. Arrangements were made by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland, Texas.
Billy was born on March 19, 1979 in Abilene, Texas to Thomas and Margo Smith. He played football for Abilene High and Ranger High schools. After high school he attended Vernon College and San Angelo State. Billy was on the rodeo team during college and had a passion for bull riding. He would enjoy attending rodeos for the remainder of his life. Billy loved music and enjoyed playing his guitar. He was a devoted and loving son, caring brother and doting uncle and was especially protective of his little brother, Dustin.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Margo Smith of Ranger, Texas, sisters, Jennifer Lyons and Kathy Smith both of Abilene, TX, and DeDe Slemmons of Ft. Worth, Texas, brothers, Dustin Smith of Ranger, Texas and James Smith of Euless, Texas and four nephews and one niece. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Dolores Smith of Abilene, Texas, Santiago and Flora Pena of Abilene, Texas and brother-in-law Robert Lyons of Austin, Texas.
Billy Smith was a wild mustang in life and now he can run free.
