RANGER – Winnie Pilgrim, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Services for Winnie will be at 10 am Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, 211 Pine St. Ranger, TX. Family and friends will gather from 5 – 7 pm on Friday also at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Wayland Cemetery in Stephens County.
Winnifred Lavinia Tackett was born March 19, 1933 in the Wayland Community to Ernest and Lydia Mosely Tackett. She was a graduate of Eastland High School and on December 14, 1948 she married Joe “Pete” Pilgrim in Breckenridge. For many years they lived in Ft. Stockton, Texas and owned and operated the Silver Saddle Lodge there. While in Ft. Stockton, Winnie was a member of the Eastern Star, HWY 67 Association and Ft. Stockton Chamber of Commerce. She lived and breathed the hotel business until her retirement. Later in life, while never being a fan of football, developed a love for Fantasy Football and became good at it. This was a way to stay engaged with the kids and grandkids. Even though she loved her business and fantasy football her greatest pride and love was her children and her precious grandchildren.
Winnie is survived by her children; Joe Pilgrim of Ranger, Kathy Shaw and husband Randy of Mexia, and Jeanne Elam of Granbury, Grandchildren; Robert Pilgrim, Cody Shaw, Cory Shaw, Eric Bumgarner, Craig Bumgarner, Chris Bumgarner and granddaughter, Jaclyn Elam and many great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pete in 1988, her parents and all eight of her sibling being the youngest of 9 children.
